To put it simply, design plus strategy = £££

1. AI, ML & Future of design

When looking at this topic, a good example is of the AI AirBnB built. Software such as this being developed, like turning sketches into source code, could threaten the jobs available in the design sector, but how realistic is it that they will take over our job roles or will they just make it easier? Other examples include no code tools, which current designers use often, no code tools allow creation to be quicker and easier but there is still a requirement for designers to complete the design process. According to research online, there is less than 5% chance that design roles will become automated.

Designers offer skills which computers cannot such as empathy, creativity, idea generation, lateral thinking and strategy. This is why more and more companies are becoming design led, such as Facebook, Apple, Instagram, Uber, Slack, Twitter, Invision, Mailchimp, Adobe, and many more.

2. BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal)

BHAG is a strategic business statement, similar to a vision statement. It focusses on an organisation on a single medium to longterm organisation wide goal which externally is questionable on it being achievable but internally it is not regarded impossible. Examples of these are JFK planning the moon landing, Microsoft planning to have a computer on every desk in every home and a newer one such as Space X planning in colonising Mars.

This is something we could look at for our healthcare projects, for us to consider projects beyond websites and apps, look at possibilities such as wearables and to be bold in our plans, nothing is impossible. As long as we take into consideration who we are aiming this product at, professionals, patients or the public and if what we are planning works into this audience.

Competitor Research

When researching into competitors there are various areas we must look at, this allows us to get an idea of what they are doing right and what could be improved. There are two main types of competitors for our products:

Areas we need to cover include:

One other thing we can consider in research is the adjacent possible, comparing other product components such as considering components from music services for our healthcare app.
